Chapter 17

She’d dressed for the occasion. Strawberry pasties and all. Taking a deep breath, Kat opened the door and stepped inside, the sights and scents of The Night Kitty assaulting her just as they had the very first night. But tonight she wasn’t the same woman she once was. Wild Kat had gotten into her soul. Sure, Meek Kitty lived within her, too, but she had less control now. She came out when insecurity pressed through her blood. But that was less and less.

Claws were out, sassy making a definite appearance. Tonight her knees didn’t knock. Tonight she didn’t need to guess if she’d find a man.

Tonight she had one waiting.

The endorphins primed the air, heavy and alluring. Sex called out through the deep thumping bass of the floor–to–ceiling speakers. Fuck me just like this, the rhythm beckoned with an almost forced sway of her hips.

Feeling the aphrodisiac of the place, Kat moved farther inside, hugging the wall as her eyes adjusted the low bar lighting and the flashing strobes streaking across the dance floor. There was something sexy about a fast pace of an intermittent strobe light.

When her pupils had dilated, she crept through the crowd. Moving to the bar, she slid into the only vacant seat, then waited for a brief moment until the bartender worked down the bar in her direction.

It was the same young, good looking brotha who’d served her up a couple of shots the first time—weeks ago—she’d been there.

“Can I get you something?”

“A Hpnotiq.”

He grinned, then slanted his head toward her. “Good, popular choice. Matches the color of your dress.”

Kat glanced down at the Marilyn Monroe–style dress she’d selected for the evening. For one reason. The way the fabric crossed over her tits. She bit her bottom lip, resisting the urge to spin on the chair to see if Oh–So–Fine had shown up yet. “Thanks,” she whispered, her mind on her man and not on the drink.

“You alone?”

“For the moment.”

The young buck laughed. Putting up his hands and with a smile that reached his eyes, he said, “Hey, I’m not hitting on you, if that’s what you think.”

Had this been the first night, Kat would have thought that was too damned bad. He was a looker even with a few years to go before he reached his manly prime.

“It’s alright, really. I’m meeting someone.”

“He have a name?”

Not that she knew of. “Of course. Don’t we all?”

He laughed again. “I just meant, are you here to meet someone or are you looking to?”

Kat’s nipples tightened. Oh, she’d met him. But the memory of sitting here getting juiced up so she’d be able to look wasn’t so distant. She’d wanted—and gotten—a man worth the shower and changing from her writing garb. Just the right bit of inspiration she’d initially desired. A fine piece of chocolate. A lover that made her feel hot. Sexy. For the first time in her life.

She took a sip of the drink the bartender placed in front of her. Licking her lips clean, she gazed down at the rich blue liquid.
